President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday said stronger
trade ties among African countries helped nurture
homegrown products that improve livelihoods.
The Head of State said Kenya would continue easing
trade requirements to enable other businesses from
African countries to engage with local traders.
President Kenyatta made the remarks at State
House, Nairobi, when he bade farewell to outgoing
Nigerian High Commissioner to Kenya, Mr Solomon
Akintola.
He cited last year's visit to Nigeria where he signed
several trade agreements that have seen Kenyan
companies export goods worth Sh2.4 billion to
Nigeria while Nigeria sold goods worth Sh700 million
to Kenya.
President Kenyatta said that Kenya was keen to
increase the number of trading partners adding that
new business deals had been signed with Zambia,
Tunisia, Angola and South Sudan.
The high commissioner noted that cordial relations
among the two countries' presidents had created a
lush ground for business to thrive especially during
his three year tour of duty.
Areas of interest include agriculture, tourism,
transport, oil, gas, security, immigration and trade.
