The new commissioner of police in Ebonyi State, Peace
Ibekwe Abdullah, has warned criminals to flee the state
because there would be no hiding place for them in the new
scheme of things.
The warning came few days after she took control of police
operations in the state. Abdullah, who took over from Dikko
Maigari, said she would consolidate on the achievement of
his predecessor to move the command forward, adding that
Ebonyi would be safe for people to stay. “I am, therefore,
warning criminals to flee the state as the police under my
control will not accommodate them,” she warned.
According to the new CP, “ this command will not condone
any act of criminality and public disorder from anyone or
group of persons; we will not do that” She maintained that
she would ensure that there is heavy presence of policemen
in all the communities to confront any security challenge.

promised to resolve communal clashes and restore lasting
peace. Kidnapped medical doctor rescued Meanwhile, the
police have freed kidnapped medical director of Smile
Hospital, Abakaliki, Dr Johnson Obuna.
Obuna, a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God
(RCCG) and obstetrician gynecologist with the Federal
Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, had served as former
chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA).
He was abducted by gunmen Wednesday night in Abakaliki.
CP Abdullah said that the medical practitioner was abducted
by three hoodlums, noting, “ In the early hours of September
8, our operations control room of Ebonyi State Police
Command received a distress call that a medical doctor in
Abakaliki was kidnapped by hoodlums. “A combined team
of SARS, Anti-kidnapping, SIB operations, and patrol teams
from central police station and Area Command Abakaliki
quickly swung into action and rescued the victim hale and
hearty, adding that no ransom was paid.”
Reacting to the incident, Chairman of the NMA, Dr. Agwu
Umahi, said the association was holding an emergency
meeting to sensitise members so that all hands would be on
deck to ensure his immediate release.
