Fire destroys Anambra market
Over eight stalls stocked with fairly used motorcycle spare parts estimated at N10million were on Sunday evening consumed by fire at Nwagbara, a section of the multi-million naira Nkwo Nnewi Market in Anambra State.
The fire outbreak, which Daily Sun gathered started at about 3:30 pm due to alleged indiscriminate and faulty connection of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) power supply to stalls, raged for hours before it was put out through the efforts of some  traders and sympathisers, who rushed to the scene.
The EEDC officials on receipt of a distress call, rushed to the scene and disconnected the affected lines.
The traders said the fire fighters in Nnewi, whose station is in the Nkwo Market and some metres away from the scene of the incident, could not come to their rescue due to a technical fault in their system.
Also, their counterparts in Nkpor, who were contacted by the Nnewi fire station could not help because their vehicle had a technical fault as they were coming for the rescue operation.
Some of the affected traders said they had just replenished their stocks before the fire incident occurred and cried for help.
Chairman of the line, Mr Chinedu Chukwu appealed for urgent help from government and public-spirited individuals for the fire victims some of whom, he said, secured some credit facilities for trading activities.
Efforts to reach the head of Nnewi Fire Service Station for comment, did not work out.
