Mom of kidnapped schoolgirl says feels like dying

Cape Town – A distressed mother of one of the abducted schoolgirls has expressed her anguish, saying her suffering was intense and called on the government to do more to rescue the girls.

According to The Telegraph, the mother who spoke on national television in Lagos, said she felt like killing herself or "just disappear[ing] from the world".

She said however, she had hope she would see her daughter again.

The woman also revealed how the kidnappings had psychologically affected the mothers of the schoolgirls.

More than 200 schoolgirls have remained missing following their abduction by Boko Haram seven weeks ago.

The girls were snatched from the north-eastern village of Chibok, on 14 April.

The authorities argue they face an unenviable dilemma: if they try to free the girls, they risk some getting killed, or if they offer money or a prisoner swap, this would only leave the rebels stronger, endangering more lives in the long run.

The reluctance to pursue either strategy has created a stalemate, according to an AFP report.
