THE
Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Petroleum Price
Marketing Company (PPMC) have reportedly written to the Public Accounts
Committee of the House of Representatives, mandated to probe the alleged
N10 billion spent on chartered private jets by the Petroleum Resources
Minister, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, and officially decline to honour
the invitations extended to them to appear before it.
In
separate letters addressed to the chairman of the committee, Honourable
Solomon Adeola Olamilekan, both NNPC and PPMC, being accused of
bankrolling the cost of the chartered jets, based their positions on
the fact that case was already before different courts of competent
jurisdistion.
This
came just as the minister was said to have vowed not to appear before
the committee, until the matters pending before the courts were
resolved.

While
Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja
refused to grant the request to stop the probe and fixed hearing for
today, the other two courts were yet to take any action on the matter.
Also,
it was learnt on Tuesday that there was pressure on the committee, as
well as the leadership of the House to stall the probe.
When
contacted on Tuesday, Honourable Olamilekan said there was no going
back, adding that “as we speak, we are set to commence the probe.”
