My supporters didn’t mastermind disruption of ballot papers inspection – APC candidate

By Ochuko Akuopha
OLEH—House of Assembly candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Isoko South constituency II, Delta State, Chief Ferguson Onwo, has said that his party’s supporters did not mastermind the brawl which stalled the inspection of ballot materials used for the April 11, 2015 state Assembly election in the constituency.
Irate youths, suspected to be supporters of the opposing political parties had, Friday, stormed the premises of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State, venue of the inspection, in large numbers, disrupting the exercise in the ensuing fracas.
A stalwart of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the area who sought anonymity had alleged that the commotion was masterminded by thugs of the APC.
Reacting to the incident, Onwo said: “I am the petitioner, so I could not have told my supporters to disrupt the inspection. If the exercise was disrupted, it is a breach of court order and it means that somebody has something to hide.”
Onwo is challenging the election of the lawmaker representing the constituency, Mr. Johnson Erijo, of PDP, at the tribunal which ordered the inspection of materials used in the poll.
