Boko Haram: Buhari Laments Military’s Recourse To External Help

By Chesa Chesa, Abuja PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari ?on Wednesday July 8, 2015 lamented the recourse of the Nigerian military to external help in the war against Boko Haram terrorists and declared, “How are the mighty fallen!” Buhari spoke at the Presidential Villa when he hosted members of the #BringBackOurGirls (BBOG), ?who visited him with a list of demands, including an apology from his government over the inability to prevent the abduction of the Chibok school girls and their rescue up till now. BBOG was formed by rights activists in April last year after over 200 schoolgirls ?were abducted from their boarding school in Chibok, Borno State, by Boko Haram terrorists. Led by former Minister of Education, Obiageli ?Ezekwesili, the BBOG delegation, which also demanded welfare and rehabilitation of the Chibok parents, expressed shock that the military and security agencies were unable to protect or rescue the vulnerable girls. Responding ?, Buhari who kept mum on the demand for apology, said it was unfortunate and paradoxical that Nigerian soldiers, who had fought gallantly and creditably outside the shores of the country, were now unable ?to robustly confront Boko Haram terrorists at home. Buhari spoke in the presence of the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, Service Chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, who he had invited to be part of the meeting with the BBOG delegation.   ?While commending the BBOG group for its resilience and aggression in demanding the release of the Chibok girls, Buhari pledged to do his best in rescuing the girls. He, however, added that for now, “I rest my case.” Details later…
