Super Eagles striker, Emmanuel Emenike, and defender, Kenneth Omeruo, may have have been ruled out of the team, if words of the new Super Eagles Coach, Sunday Oliseh, are anything to go by.
While signing his three-year contract with an option for one year extension, in Abuja on Wednesday, Oliseh said that his new philosophy for the team would exclude players in second tier and bench warmers.
Omeruo and Emenike
This stance rules out Chelsea defender, Omeruo who is on loan to second tier Middlesbrough and Emenike currently on loan to Quatari aide Ain Fc.
Oliseh, who got three months salary upfront, vowed to shut the door to any player that fails to abide with camp code that would be developed and enforced by the players.
He stressed that given the short period available between the time invited players arrive to camp and matches, only players that can adapt to the new philosophy and who play in the top leagues would be invited.
He expressed his excitement at the opportunity to coach the team, but warned that he was not the Messiah of the ailing Nigerian football, assuring that he would work 27 hours a day, if possible, to deliver a new look Super Eagles that meet the aspirations of Nigerians.
“I am not coming as a Messiah, I am not coming as a man who knows it all, I am not coming as a man who can single-handedly over night turn Nigeria to Germany. I am coming as a man who want to serve his country and to give 150%, if need be,” he said and pleaded for support of all Nigerians.
Oliseh is expected to qualify the team for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and reach the semi-final. He is also expected to qualify for the 2018 World Cup and reach the quarter- finals.
