SENATOR ISIAKA ADELEKE DIED @ 62

The three-term Senator currently represents Osun West Senatorial district having won the election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2015.

Adeleke died Sunday at Bikets Hospital in Oshogbo, the Osun state capital, after suffering a heart attack according to family sources.

Adeleke, the first civilian governor of Osun state, in 2014, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Chelsea have re-signed Brazil defender David Luiz from Paris St-Germain for a fee of around £34m.

The 29-year-old travelled to London for a medical as the Blues confirmed the signing of left-back Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina for a reported £23m.

Luiz returns to Stamford Bridge on a three-year deal.

He first joined the Blues from Benfica for £21.3m in January 2011, and made 143 appearances before leaving to join PSG for a reported £40m in 2014.

Capped 56 times for his country, Luiz won the Champions League and FA Cup with Chelsea in 2012, as well as the Europa League a year later.

He went on to lift two Ligue 1 titles with PSG.

"We had a fantastic story during my first time at the club," said Luiz.

Meanwhile, Alonso moves to the Premier League for the third time in his career.

The uncapped Spaniard, 25, played for Bolton 46 times from 2010 to 2013 before moving to Fiorentina, and had a four-month loan spell at Sunderland in 2014.

"It's time for me to win some titles. It's a step up in my career," Alonso said onChelsea's website.

Cesar Azpilicueta is the first-choice left-back at Chelsea, who have loaned Baba Rahman to Schalke this summer.

"My family and close friends know Chelsea is the club I have dreamed about playing for," Alonso added.

"I'm really excited about the challenge and I'm looking forward to working with my new team-mates."

Chelsea winger Juan Cuadrado, 28, has rejoined Juventus on a three-year loan deal.

Delta Community Cries Out over Heavy Military Presence

Indigenes of Kokodiagbene, an Ijaw community in Gbaramatu kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, yesterday cried out over heavy presence of military personnel in the riverside communities in search of illegal oil bunkerers and militants.

The Chairman of the community, Sheriff Mulade, in a statement, said the presence of military in patrol boats in search of criminals in the creeks has forced his people to be relocating deeper into the swamps for fear of attack.

He said though the deployment of the military personnel in the Niger Delta was a welcome development, enough enlightenment ought to have taken place before the commencement of ‘Exercise Crocodile Smile.’“No doubt, the presence of the military is a welcome development since it will help to protect oil installation, facilities and creeks. It will curb and prevent pirates attacking traders; reduce crime and eradicate illegal bunkering activities in the creek of the Niger Delta.

“But, we want to strongly advise the military authorities to apply professionalism and diplomacy” adding that the deployment has raised unnecessary tension among the residents of riverine communities who now live in fear.
“Most of our people are now relocating to nearby communities for safety due to the rumour of military invasion of flow stations and oil installations in host communities particularly in Gbaramatu kingdom.

“The people have therefore appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari and the military authority to direct the military personnel not to invade Kokodiagbene and other riverine communities in the name of illegal oil bunkers, criminals and militants,” he said.

Instead, the community leader strongly advised the military authority to go after the illegal bunkerers, militants and criminals in their hide out, noting that Gbaramatu kingdom does not host militants and oil illegal bunkerers.
